Dart Ranger is a free game of long dart shots that you play in your browser, on desktop or phone. You are a ranger with a dart rifle. Your darts never hurt anyone. A tag dart puts a bright orange tag on an animal. A sleep dart lets it doze off for a while. Every animal is safe, and every animal you tag joins your sanctuary.

How it plays

Aim through the scope, hold steady, and fire. Long shots drop, and wind lifts or presses your dart, so you read the wind card before you fire. Some animals stand still. Others cross, run or leap, so you lead your shot. Miss too often and the animals get spooked and leave, so make each dart count.

Five worlds, 100 levels

• Pine Lake: herons, geese, ducks, swans, loons, ospreys, otters and beavers on the shore and in the sky, and carp, trout and bass under the ripples. Learn drop and wind, then tag fish under rippling water.
• Geyser Valley: bison and elk calves, bighorn lambs, marmots, fox kits, mountain goats and eagles behind rock slabs. Bounce the dart off the rock, then deal with steam and sliding ledges.
• Savanna Safari: tag from a moving safari truck. Use gas and brake to close in on zebras, ostriches, giraffe and elephant calves, meerkats and wildebeest herds without spooking them.
• Amazon River Run: tag from a boat. Find a capybara on the bank, a sloth in the canopy, a macaw in flight and a pink river dolphin in the water, through mist, vines and rain.
• Arctic Run: shots that skip across the ice to reach seals, walruses, muskox calves, polar bear cubs, arctic foxes, snowy owls, puffins and whales at their breathing holes, with floes and squalls in the way.

There are 58 kinds of animals, and the next level never brings the same one. Each world has 20 levels in four sets of five. Every fifth level is a boss level with a harder animal and bonus coins. Earn up to three stars per level.

Easy upgrades

Stars and coins buy upgrades in the shop: longer steady breath, a sharper scope, spare darts, softer steps, a short-range net dart and a bounce lens. Upgrades help a little, and every level can be won without them. A daily challenge gives you a fresh level each day.

Controls

Mouse: click to fire, right click or Space to hold steady. Keyboard: arrow keys nudge the aim, Enter or F fires, R retries, Esc opens the menu. Touch: drag to aim and lift your finger to fire, with on-screen Fire and Hold steady buttons. On Savanna Safari and Amazon River Run, use the Gas and Brake buttons or W and S.
